In early 2024, the Journalism Trust Initiative faced the challenge of safeguarding its website data after Prismic CMS introduced restrictive pricing and lacked an export mechanism. To prevent data loss and maintain operational independence, RSF requested Relief Applications to develop a reliable data extraction and backup process.

Relief Applications designed a custom Node.js extraction tool leveraging Prismic’s API to securely retrieve all content types, documents, and media assets. The system incorporated authentication, pagination, and rate-limit handling to ensure full coverage. Extracted data were stored in structured JSON and directory formats, mirroring Prismic’s architecture for easy future reuse.

We delivered a complete and validated backup of all JTI content, including text entries, media assets, and metadata, accompanied by detailed technical documentation. This solution not only safeguarded JTI’s intellectual property but also laid the groundwork for future migration toward a more sustainable CMS architecture.

This project demonstrates Relief Applications’ capacity to develop bespoke automation tools for data extraction, digital preservation, and migration-readiness. The Prismic backup solution exemplifies our expertise in safeguarding digital assets for international organizations, particularly those managing media, knowledge, or advocacy platforms requiring long-term data independence and integrity.
