The United States President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) has been a long-term supporter of insecticide-treated net (ITN) durability monitoring (DM) studies. These studies assess the longevity of ITNs and their continued effectiveness in protecting users, providing critical data for ITN replacement strategies and product performance evaluation. PMI has conducted over 40 DM and Streamlined Durability Monitoring (SDM) studies across 25+ countries.
To support this initiative, PMI originally developed a website, hosting tools, datasets, and study results. However, after a decade, the website required a refresh to enhance usability, improve accessibility, and incorporate new data visualization elements.
Relief Applications was engaged to revamp the PMI Durability Monitoring website, ensuring that it remains an effective digital resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. The project focused on:
- Modernizing the website’s design with a new interactive homepage.
- Developing an interactive map showcasing DM and SDM study locations, ITN brands monitored, and key results.
- Creating a dedicated section for a newly developed pooled dataset, making it easily accessible and regularly updatable.
- Enhancing data visualization, budget permitting, to present key findings through dynamic charts and tables.
Providing recommendations for a full-scale website redesign to improve user experience and maximize the platform’s impact.
The PMI Durability Monitoring website refresh is a prime example of Relief Applications’ ability to leverage digital innovation for humanitarian and global health initiatives. By transforming complex datasets into an intuitive digital experience, we empower stakeholders to make data-driven decisions in the fight against malaria.
